Green Pine Acres Nursing Home originated in the mind of the Menahga Development Corporation in the early 1960s. They took the initial steps of purchasing property, hiring an architect and organizing the project. They donated the land and information to the City of Menahga for the actual building and operation.
Green Pine Acres was opened for residents on May 1, 1965, licensed by the Minnesota Department of Health as an Intermediate I facility. Today, it is still owned and operated by the City of Menahga as a non-profit governmental unit with 65 Medicare/Medicaid-certified beds.
A Transitional Care Unit, for short term stays, was opened in 2018 adding an additional 10,000 square feet and 16 private rooms with built in cabinetry, flat screen TVs and private showers. The new addition not only has new rooms, but a new therapy room and additional sitting/common areas as well. The whole addition for short term stay has a very warm atmosphere and is said to feel like "staying in a nice hotel." The existing building was renovated/remodeled to create 41 private rooms and 8 double rooms along with additional common areas as well. All of the double rooms have been renovated and have new flooring and paint and all of the private rooms have been remodeled to allow a comfortable private space, built in cabinetry and flat screen TVs.
